Biography
He's Country
When keys have heat, goodness gracious. The only way Countryman enters a room gets a look, a hoot, and you know soon some howls. He’ll sing you sweet heartaches of a rambling man, tell you how tender you got him, then get you right back up swinging with a stride like no other. John Countryman is honky tonking rock and roll, he’s putting his whole soul into his blues, he’s country, and he’s western.
Across the Country
John Countryman hails from North Carolina, and as he’ll tell you, “there ain’t a thing you can say to change [his] longing to be … Carolina bound”. But in 2009, the country boy moved north(ish) to rock and roll with the powerhouse quintet The Dirty Names. For 2 albums and multiple tours across the U.S., Countryman’s keys were making crowds shake the floorboards, bringing his rock-a-billy sensibilities to the electric sound of down and dirty rock and roll. Countryman’s unmistakable presence soon brought him to a new kind of stage when he starred in the Tony Award-winning production of Million Dollar Quartet. John’s dynamic performance as the inimitable Jerry Lee Lewis brought the raw, frenzied force of the piano legend to life.
Country Boy
As a born performer and practiced teller of tall tales, John Countryman is not one to miss on-stage. His laugh and his croon can make the most steely faces crack a smile and sing along. His foot starts tapping, and you’ll be moving before you know it. John’s now made the move to the homeland of country music, Nashville, Tennessee, where he’s brought with him the storytelling prowess and virtuoso’s chops a country boy needs to make it on the airwaves. His debut solo album It’s Country, Man! will show you just how Countryman got his name.
Debut Album
Between steel guitar’s bleeding tones, the jangle of boogie woogie keys, and lilting bass, you’ll find the heartache, abandon, and sheer, unbridled spirit of a man singing country music. It’s Country, Man! brings together the vast spectrum of American music that fits anywhere between Country and Western. With soul-stirring laments for lost loves, driving stride piano marching all across the keyboard, guitar licks wailing, cheeky digs at exes, and a love song for a fine steak dinner, John Countryman’s break into songwriting reveals an intimate knowledge and true admiration for country music. From the first note to the last, you’ll have no doubt that what you’re hearing is the sound of one John Countryman.
